Officers & Board of Directors

HPSI is led by a dedicated group of professionals, including 8 officers, multiple directors, and is advised by the immediate past president.

Each year in May, elections are held for all officers and directors, who serve one-year terms. Elections are held by secret ballot. Board members are sworn in at the Graduates' Presentation Event.

To be eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, candidates must be members in good standing, graduates of accredited 4-year universities, and elected by the membership. For more information on the positions, please contact the HPSI President listed below.

President Stacy Economy, LEED GA, CNU-A, Assoc. AIA economy Stacy Economy joined the HPSI board in 2016 as the VP of Membership after earning her Bachelor of Architecture and Minor in Structural Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. She is currently a Project Engineer at Pepper Construction. In her free time she has served as the Alumnae Advisor of Kappa Phi Delta Sorority and enjoys reading, and exploring unfamiliar urban fabric during her travels. Stacy looks forward to enriching and strengthening the Hellenic professional network in Illinois.
Vice President Nick Colis colis Nick Colis is a Financial Lines Underwriter at Chubb, Ltd. He graduated from Valparaiso University in 2012 with a BA in Political Science. Nick helped reestablish HPSI in 2015 and has served as the organization’s Vice President since 2016. In his free time, Nick enjoys playing beach volleyball, practicing yoga and skiing.
Vice President, Membership Leo Talaganis talaganis Lycurgus (Leo) Talaganis joined the Hellenic Professional Society of Illinois Board as Secretary in 2016. He is a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy who works in the orthopedic rehabilitation setting and has a specialty in manual therapy for the spine. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist and APTA certified clinical instructor for student physical therapists. Leo takes pride in serving patients in the Greek American community and all those in need of healthcare in the northwest Chicagoland area. He is passionate about mentoring young professionals and graduates in his profession and enjoys taking part in outreach with HPSI. In his free time, he enjoys exploring Chicago’s neighborhoods and his hobby of drawing and art.
Secretary Athanasios Bourtsos bourtsos Athanasios "Thanasi" Bourtsos earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from DePaul University in 2017. Thanasi is currently employed at Allstate Insurance in their Investments practice division where he focuses primarily on GAAP reporting. He grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and attends the parish of St Demetrios of Elmhurst. During his free time, Thanasi enjoys volunteering, traveling, reading about history, and socializing with friends and family.
Treasurer Evan Theodoropoulos theodoropoulos Evan Theodoropoulos earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a Minor in Finance from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago Liautaud Graduate School of Business. He has passed the CPA Examination and is awaiting licensure this October. Evan is currently employed at Grant Thornton LLP in their Audit Practice where he focuses primarily on Not-for-profit organizations. He grew up in the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago and attends the parish of Sts Constantine and Helen. During his free time, Evan enjoys playing on his firm’s soccer and volleyball teams as well as playing other sports, volunteering, vacationing, and socializing with friends and family.
Marketing Lead Spiro Tsirikolias tsirikolias  
Technology Lead Alyssa Machinis machinis Alyssa Machinis joined HPSI as the Marketing Director in 2015 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Advertising at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Most recently, she has transitioned to the role of Technology Director. She is currently a Measurement Analyst at HY Connect. In her free time she enjoys singing, learning new skills, and trying new restaurants.

Immediate Past President, Director Maria Bazakos bazakos Maria Bazakos is a member of the board of directors for the Hellenic Professional Society of Illinois and previously served as President (2016-2017) and Secretary (2015-2016). Maria is from Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she attended college and law school. Maria is an associate attorney at McCarthy Duffy LLP where she focuses her practice on corporate law and private investment. Outside of the law, Maria likes to spend her time trying new coffee shops and restaurants, playing soccer and traveling.
Past President, Director George Logothetis logothetisg George Logothetis is a Senior Director at Aon. His background includes industry and consulting experience in strategy, process and delivery experience in Financial Services, Retail, Pharmacy, and Supply Chain. George has a proven ability in developing business and operating model strategy while leveraging his deep leadership skills to deliver for Fortune 100 firms. Prior to returning as a Senior Advisor to HPSI in 2015, George had served on the Board, including two years as President, between 2003 and 2010. George is passionate about giving back to the Hellenic-American community and is happy to use his personal network of Hellenes across multiple professions to assist others.
Past President, Director Joy Logothetis logothetisj Joy Logothetis earned her Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and her Master of Medical Science from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She is a board-certified Physician Assistant, and has gained experience in clinical, surgical, and inpatient settings. She currently is employed at Arlington Dermatology, and enjoys caring for patients by treating them for their various dermatological issues including eczema, psoriasis, acne, skin cancers as well as various cosmetic treatments treatments. During her free time, she enjoys traveling, catching up with family and friends, and enjoying the city of Chicago.
Director Matthew Brown brown Matthew Brown obtained a BA in Hispanic Studies from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MA in the Classics and a JD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is an Associate at the law firm of Jackson Lewis, where he practices in the area of labor and employment law. He also is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. Matthew joined the HPSI board in 2016.
Director Anesti Dhima dhima Anesti Dhima joined the HPSI Board as Treasurer in 2015. He is a University of Illinois alumnus and currently works on the business development team at Instacart, a San Francisco-based grocery eCommerce startup. Anesti originally grew up bordering the Chicago city limits in Elmwood Park and currently lives in West Town. He is an active member of the Chicago based organization “Big Brothers, Big Sisters,” and enjoys attending sporting events with his little brother in his free time.
Director Dean Economos economos Dean Economos earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Minor in Biostatistics from Loyola University Chicago. He also earned his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business. He is currently employed as Marketing Analyst at HealthSmart International in Waukegan, and is the author of A North Shore Story. In his free time he enjoys fast cars, exploring the world, and trying new experiences.
Director Alexander Facklis facklis Alexander Facklis is managing director of Exelexys, a small consulting firm focused on using technology to deliver business results for its clients. He is a versatile systems professional with diverse project-based experience spanning global multinational organizations, small businesses and startups in multiple industries. He enjoys playing competitive soccer, modern Greek language and culture, arts, interacting with his nephews and niece, and volunteering.
Director Loukas Kalliantasis kalliantasis Loukas Kalliantasis is a first generation Greek-American from Chicago, Illinois. He is an attorney and practices primarily in personal injury and worker’s compensation law. He earned his Juris Doctor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and currently works there as an Adjunct Professor of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where he was also member of the varsity baseball team. In his free time, Loukas enjoys playing soccer and writing music. He joined the HPSI board in 2015 and looks to strengthening Greek-American connections in the Chicagoland community.
Director Christopher Kantas kantas Christopher Kantas grew up in Oak Lawn, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2010 and currently practices complex civil litigation in Chicago. He joined the HPSI Board as a Director in 2015. He also serves on the Board of Trustees at the St Stanislaus Kostka School in Chicago, IL. In his free time he kayaks and plays in the Chicago Bar Association Symphony Orchestra.
Director Dean Karahalios karahalios Dean Karahalios is a medical student at Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Having grown up within Chicago's thriving Greek community, his commitment to uniting Greeks started at a young age. He looks forward to contributing to HPSI as a board member this year.

Director Nikos Tsonis tsonis Nikos Tsonis obtained his BA from Yale University in Philosophy and his JD/MBA from Boston University. He is a partner at Relias & Tsonis, LLC, a boutique law firm focusing on commercial and industrial property assessment law, and is a passionate board member of HPSI.
